Nigerian Female artistes to watch out for this year 2022
Many Nigerian female artistes are really representing Nigeria in the global music industry with their talents and you can’t relegate them where Afrobeats is mentioned.
This is because over the years, they have added their quota to the development of Afrobeats.
We have compile a list of possible artistes that may make headline this year 2022.
This list was compiled after several research have been carried out on the numbers of airplays, award and award nomination, concert performances, features and hit songs.
We also talked with entertainment business gurus, event managers before compiling this list.
These are the possible Nigerian female artistes to watch out for in 2022.
Tiwa Savage (born Tiwatope Savage; 5 February 1980) is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress. Born in Isale Eko, she relocated to London at the age of 11 for her secondary education. Five years later, she began her music career doing backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige. After participating in the UK edition of The X Factor and graduating from Berklee College of Music, Savage signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009. Inspired by the growth of the Nigerian music industry, Savage moved back to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records in 2012. She made an appearance on the label’s 2012 compilation album Solar Plexus. And since then, she has been doing marvelously in the music scene.
The year 2021 was an eventful year for Tiwa Savage. The mother of one and a song writer, Tiwa Savage released the song “Somebody’s Son” which she featured Brandy and it was a hit.
Tiwa Savage’s ‘Water and Garri EP’ was also a success despite she was involved in a sex scandal, the artiste didn’t let that affect her music career.
The song “Somebody’s Son” was on top of Apple Music Chart and Itunes Chart last year.
She has proven that this year 2022 will be packed with much more entertainment and her fans expects many more hit singles from her.
Temilade Openiyi (born 11 June 1995), better known by her stage name Tems, is a Nigerian singer. In 2021, she earned two US top 40 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, with her collaboration with Drake on the song “Fountains” from his album Certified Lover Boy, and the Wizkid single “Essence”; the latter of which reached the top ten following a remix with Justin Bieber, and earned her a Grammy Award nomination.
In the same year, Tems was ranked number one on the Billboard Next Big Sound chart and number-five on the Billboard Emerging Artist chart. In September 2021, Tems was signed to RCA records, and released her second EP If Orange Was a Place, which reached the top ten on the Billboard World Albums chart.
Tems had proven herself as talented as the year 2021 was nice to her career.
Many vibe to her song “Crazy Ting” off her ‘If Orange was a Place’ EP released 1n 2021.
The artiste was featured on Wizkid and Drake’s song which gave her more popularity in 2021.
Billboard names Tems Hip Hop Rookie of the month of October 2021.
Wizkid featured her on “Essence” and the song reached number one on Adult R&B Airplay Chart.
Tems was on number three position on Boomplay Nigeria Top Rising Artistes of 2021.
The talented female artiste is still cooking up some more hit songs and her fans also expect more from her this year.
Teniola Apata, born 23 December (1992) better known as Teni, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and entertainer.
Teni was born on 23 December 1992 in Lagos state. She is the younger sister of Nigerian singer Niniola. She attended Apata Memorial High School and later preceded to American InterContinental University where she obtained degree in business administration.
2016-2019: Fargin, Askamaya and Other Recordings
Teni released her debut single “Amen” while signed to Shizzi’s Magic Fingers Records. She left the record label and signed with Dr. Dolor Entertainment in 2017. Teni started gaining prominence after releasing the single “Fargin” in September 2017. She made her breakthrough after releasing the hit singles “Askamaya”, “Case” and “Uyo Meyo”. “Askamaya” was ranked 15th on MTV Base’s year-end list of the Top 20 Hottest Naija Tracks of 2018.
On 20 February 2019, Teni was featured on YouTube Music’s Trending Artist on the Rise. On May 3, 2019, she released the video for “Sugar Mummy”. On June 14, 2019, she released a new single titled “Power Rangers”.
2019-2020: Billionaire E.P and Quarantine Playlist
Teni released her debut E.P, Billionaire on the 11th of October 2019. The “Billionaire EP” was complied with six (6) interesting tracks and with no guest appearance. The E.P was produced by Jaysynths Beatz and Pheelz.
In April 2020, Teni partnered with Nigerian Disk Jockey, DJ Neptune to release an EP called the Quarantine Playlist, which sees her playing out different stages of being in quarantine and talking about the strains of being on lock down due to the coronavirus pandemic. The four-track EP is mostly mid-tempo and includes production from Tempoe, P. Prime and Dëra.
On 2nd February 2021, Teni revealed the name and expected date for her forthcoming debut album. She shared this on her Instagram account “The time is near….. And the album shall be called “WONDALAND” #MARCH2021 #WONDALAND”.
Her debut album ‘WONDALAND’ was crafted for over two years in cities like London, New York, Orlando, Ondo, Lagos and Abuja..
The album features guest appearances from Davido. Its production was handled by Pheelz, Damayo, Tempoe, P.Prime, Millamix, Krizbeatz, and Ozedikus and was made available for purchase and online streaming on several music platforms, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, and Google Play
In Nigerian music industry, Teni is one of the most hard-working female artistes and 2021 has been a beautiful year for her music career.
Teni released an album titled ‘Wondaland’ in 2021 and some of the songs in the album received good reception in Nigeria. Her song – “For You” featuring Davido also received massive airplays and downloads on many digital stores.
Teni is the top female artiste in 2021 on Boomplay Nigeria. As her song was most stream among female artiste in Nigeria.
Watch out for Teni entertainer this year, as she has not finished making hits.
This Mavin Record artiste came prepared. Her music career was a success in 2021 as all the songs she released were hits.
She released her studio album ’19 and dangerous’ on July 30th and “Bloody Samaritan” was the biggest song on the album that took her places.
The song – “Bloody Samaritan” topped the Itunes Chart and it also performed well on Spotify and Apple Music Chart.
Ayra Starr was also occupied number two position on Boomplay Nigeria fast rising artistes of 2021.
The year 2021 also favoured Simi music career as she released one of her best songs – “Woman” that year.
She was featured by some artiste on their songs and she bess the beat with her angelic voice.
Chike featured her on his song titled “Running” and the video got them 34 million views on Youtube.
Her concert, ‘Can You Simi Now, Live with the Banjos was a success as it pulled massive crowd.
Simi doesn’t seems to be slowing down now, not while she is cooking up more bangers for her fans this year.
Fave is definitely one of the Nigerian Female artistes to watch out for this year 2022. She serves good music to music lovers in 2021 and she put in enough energy to prove that she is not in the industry to joke.
Her song “Baby Riddim” received massive airplay as when it was released in 2021. The artiste is not in any way showing sign to relent in making more great music.

Her song – “Ryde” also received massive airplay and good reception from Nigeria.
Niniola had received Grammy Award Certificate for the role she performed for Beyonce album – ‘Lion King’.
