FA begins an investigation into the death of Maddy Cusack, a player for Sheffield United Women.
Maddy Cusack, a 27-year-old Sheffield United Women midfielder and the team’s marketing executive, passed away in September. Since joining the Women’s Championship team in 2019, she has made over 100 appearances. According to the police, there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
The Football Association has opened a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Sheffield United player Maddy Cusack.
In September of last year, the 27-year-old’s body was discovered at her Horsley, Derbyshire, home. An inquest into Cusack’s death was opened and postponed in October, but police did not consider her death to be suspicious.
Following concerns voiced over club procedures, Sheffield United appointed an impartial third party to investigate in December.
United was found not to have committed any crime during that investigation; nevertheless, the FA announced earlier this month that it was examining the third-party investigation and has since chosen to conduct a thorough investigation.
Jonathan Morgan, the manager of Sheffield United’s women’s squad, resigned in October due to an inquiry into his behavior.
Morgan angrily denied any misconduct, but the third-party report acquitted him of all charges. Earlier last month, he returned to work.
Cusack’s family members have met with the FA and continue to communicate with them to provide updates on the material they have obtained for their inquiry.
Sheffield United have not responded.
When approached by Newsmen for a comment, Jonathan Morgan’s representative declined.
