Manchester City and RB Leipzig are in early talks to sign Josko Gvardiol.

Man City are the frontrunners for Croatia international Josko Gvardiol, who was coveted by Chelsea and Tottenham last year. The champions are yet to make a formal proposal, but RB Leipzig sports director Max Eberl has confirmed conversations. The clubs are in talks, according to RB managing director of sport Max Eberl.

He also informed Leipziger-Volkszeitung that “Josko and his advisers have given us their wish to move to Manchester City.”

Gvardiol is a left-footed Croatia international centre-back who is highly sought after by a number of elite clubs.

Last year, both Chelsea and Tottenham were interested in signing him.

Josko Gvardiol’s two Champions League matches with Manchester City last season couldn’t have been more different, from a goal-scoring display to a humiliation at the Etihad.

The man in the mask for Croatia at the World Cup showed why, at just 21, he is one of the world’s highest-rated young defenders and desired by Europe’s top clubs in the first leg of their last-16 encounter. His mature defensive performance was highlighted by a stunning header for the German club.

Three weeks later, RB Leipzig were crushed 7-0 in Manchester, with no response for five-goal Erling Haaland’s abilities. Gvardiol Josko felt humbled by the encounter. But possibly one that will fuel his desire to reach the pinnacle of the game.

It doesn’t appear to have harmed his standing in the eyes of his admirers.
